Based on the [adult swim] animated series Rick and Morty, the Rick and Morty Rickstaverse is the first of it's kind treasure-hunt style video game built entirely on Instagram. With Rick's portal gun, you are able to warp to various locations in the Rickstaverse to explore immersive worlds and find hidden collectibles — including comics, interactive handheld video games and alien mating simulators. I came up with level designs based on locations from the show and led a small team of illustrators for each iteration of the Rickstaverse.

For the OG level designs I came up with a system that worked on both 3x5 and 5x3 grids without breaking the illustration, though once Instagram redesigned their website to resemble their mobile UI, I scrapped most of the layouts and started from scratch treating them as one large image with mini-narratives across tiles. Only a couple of levels are still based off their original “unbreakable” layouts.
